Ask one question

Start with a question you can observe, not a conclusion you want to prove. Choose one primary measure and define what would count as a meaningful change before looking at the results.

Do not use this framework to self-administer investigational or prescription drugs. The useful skill here is measurement literacy, not protocol building.

Build a baseline

Measure before changing anything. Record the same metric, with the same device or method, over a period long enough to reveal ordinary variation.

Sleep, training load, illness, travel, alcohol, work stress, and device noise can all move a number. Write down the obvious confounders instead of explaining them away afterward.

Change one thing

Make a single, clearly defined change while holding as much else steady as practical. Avoid stacking five interventions, then assigning credit to the one you hoped would work.

If the result matters, repeat it. A finding that appears once may be weather, expectation, regression to the mean, or ordinary randomness.

Report the limitation with the result

A useful field note states the baseline, measurement method, what changed, known confounders, result, and what the result does not prove.

A personal result can be honest and interesting without being medical advice, a recommendation, or evidence of a causal clinical effect.
